Burger King Caught Selling Horse Burgers

Burger King has tonight admitted that it has been selling burgers and Whoppers containing horsemeat despite two weeks of denials.
The fast food chain, which has more than 500 UK outlets,
Burger King has faced allegations of orchestrating a cover-up of its links to the horsemeat scandal in order to give it time to find an alternative supplier. It has admitted selling burgers containing horsemeat

It also raises serious questions about whether the food company, which sells around one million burgers a week in the UK, has any good idea about what goes into its products.
The contaminated burgers were made by the Irish-based processing company, Silvercrest, which is part the ABP Foods Group.

The same company also made tainted burgers for Tesco, Asda and the Co-op, among others.

    2. Why is it ok to slaughter cows for meat and not horses? I don't get the logic. Slaughtering is wrong no matter what type of animal it is.

    3. Slaughtering is human history, buck up and eat already, the line behind you is growing

    4. I see your point about why it is okay to slaughter cows but not horses. Its the fact you have the right to know what you are eating.

  2. ... and will Burger-King now run a 'special offer' by way of an apology to loyal consumers ... or just say sorry and carry on as before.

  3. Is horse meat illegal to sell in the UK? Because if it is then this is a story if not then its just buyer beware.

  4. Everyone calm the fuck down. Does it taste nice? Yes it does. If we all ate horse as part of our staple diet and cow was found in burgers people would react the same, scared of anything that isn't the norm. We are meat eaters. All meat tastes good even if it isn't part of the 'regular' diet.

    1. I agree. Foods that seem odd in one country may be a main source for others. Don't judge a book by it's cover... You never know. :)

    2. Thats because over there they're more then likely treated as food, you don't wanna eat a modern day race horse
      Trust.

  6. It's contaminated because it has horsemeat in it? While I'd certainly want to know what meat was in my burger, who has heard of mad horse disease?

  7. [Shadow environment secretary Mary Creagh told the Commons that some of these animals tested positive for the carcinogen phenylbutazone,]
Mmmm... yummy horse, from unknown origins, possibly containing very carcinogenic drug commonly known as bute. anything for a quick profit, greed shows it's ugly head over the welfare of people once again

  8. @Brett mozingo venison is the bollocks. Well nice. Everyone saying gross etc needs to take a step back and think. You happily eat cow but think horse is gross. Why exactly?

  9. Carcinogenic? Cow milk contains the protein casein which has apparently been shown to be highly carcinogenic but yet it is still a part of our staple diet. Flawed argument. Hell, everything apparently gives you cancer these days

    1. it's not an argument, if you want to eat carcinogenic horse meat go knock your self out and enjoy, but that wasn't what people thought they were eating was it.

  12. Not really into religion but... The bible has this list of animals to eat and not eat. It talks about eating only the split hooved that chew the cud. There are exceptions, such as the camel shall not be eaten and the rabbit, I think Ive seen Swans in there as well. Its reasoning is that it is unclean for you. Look it up if you'd like Leviticus 11-IDK. Google it or get a Real bible. There are so many versions though lol

  13. Calm down people. That meat in fast food chains is not a real meat like you may have buying in stores or in steak houses. All this meat is so much processed that it does not have no nutritional value anyway that is why it is mixed with tons of color and taste additives, and whoever knows what else. That is why it doesn't rotten in years and even ants do not eat these burgers and french frys. Horse meat is added to some kolbases, sosages and other meat products and it always been so. Prepare your food at home and do not worry on what you put inside yourself!

  14. True, every culture has different meats that they enjoy like certain cultures like dogs/cats and others eat horses and various others. So what's so wrong about eating different meat?

  15. Does that mean you will eat ground up human?

  16. If you choose to eat horse meat, then by all means go ahead. Hopefully in its lifetime that horse had bute, banamine, some dexamethasone or other steriods, plenty of vaccines, a few antibiotics for good measure, some smz's, naxcel, ppg, kpen, excede and a lot of other things that say on the bottle, "not for use in horses for consumption". Enjoy that burger. :)

why do you think horses are better then other animals??

  17. If horses aren't injected with growth hormones and other chemicals and poison that are in beef, horse meat might be better.

  21. I kind of like horse meat.

Had it during the war. Here in the U.S. I don't think they even bother to inspect meats any more, so what the heck.

There used to be a fellow in Tonopah, Nevada sold the best rib steaks you ever tasted, they were horse meat but advertised as beef. The first time I had one I mentioned that it had a slight sweet flavor like horse, the people with me thought I was kidding. A few weeks later they closed him down for serving mustangs and burros.

  22. in context.. these verses in the bible were writen for the jews at the time. God wanted them to live seprate livesfrom the heathen. the heathen ate the animals/food in these verses that God. it has nothing to do with God not wanting us/you to eat the animals in these verses today.

  23. Here is why it's gross. Horses are not raised for food like cows are. Horses end up at slaughter by defalt because of old age, sickness, or money reasons. A horses is treated as a pet of sort most of it's life so it receives the normal vaccines (that are not to be given to any animal intended for human food) every 6 months of it's life. A horse also receives wormer every 4 weeks or so of it's life to kill any worms it may have picked up (also not to be given to any animal intended for human food. There are so many other injections, feeds, and medicines a horse receives in it's life time that should not be given to any animal that is intended as human food. Add the fact that alot of horses that end up in slaughter are there due to sickness or diseases, that meat should NEVER be used a human food. So go ahead and chow down on one of those burgers is you still think that's not gross.

  24. You people saying this is gross You should know over 75 percent of the worlds population eat horse instead of cow becau se its healthier then beef.. Also horse is a national delicacy in some european and asian countries

  25. Its not the fact that their using horsemeat, to me it was the point of trying to decieve their customers on what they were ingesting. I'm very disappointed BK.

  26. God never changes..... He still does not want us to eat unclean foods... shellfish, fish with no scales.. pigs..... these things and bottom feeders eat the refuse.... do u know how much cholesteral is in these things??? if you want to be cut off from the land.. then keep disobeying HIs commands.... xtians are wrong.. they still have to follow God's/YHWH's commands...and if anyone says to break His commands... do not follow that false teacher....they are wrong.... grace means you have understanding for knowing the revelation.. grace is provision.... He packed us a lunch... it's up to us to take it..or deny it..

  27. So you're all upset because youre eating horsemeat instead of cow meat? psssh Id much rather eat horse, so much leaner meat and not nearly as dirty of an animal. The only thing they did wrong is not advertise correctly. Lets add deer and horse to menu BK!!! Call a whopper made out of horse a unicorn burger lol

  28. Horse meat is still a commonly sold and eaten meat in Canada so not surprised they eat it in the UK. When I lived in Michigan and went to horse auctions every week the front row was always filled with Canadian meat buyers....and it was not for dog food...they bought cull horses that were foundered or retired from racing or just not wanted anymore.

    1. Exactly. People tend to think it's not natural, but what is not natural is people being so picky over what is on their plate.

  29. Somewhere, 1 billion Indians think that beef is gross. At this very moment, somewhere in Asia, someone is filleting a puppy, because it's a delicacy. Meanwhile, in Australia, there's a tribe serving up toasted spiders.
I live in Kentucky, where horses are over bred for the sole purpose of racing. Many of them don't make the cut, so what then? Is it more wrong to eat them, or breed unwanted animals?
I'd eat your cat if I was hungry enough, and I'm sure that if you were hungry enough, you wouldn't even stop to consider what animal you're eating.

  30. Exactly other people in this world eat other types of animals, it's more about being lied to. Like someone said spelling beef with threes as a way of getting around it. Come out and let us know what it is that we are eating. Plus the fact it probably costs more for beef than horse so why are they selling it at the same price' Don't mislead us.

  31. so much fast food that we can get right now, but we must be vigilant and careful so that no one ate, because we do not necessarily know about the making of fast food
